The social situation in the municipality of Al-Sabkha has been witnessing tension and anger among the workers for a while.
The reason behind such situation is due to the marginalization of their demands by the mayor.
The municipal workers in the capital, Nouakchott, organized several demonstrations in front of the municipality’s building, confirming through press statements that the current mayor is refusing to deal with their demands, including paying their salaries and allowances regularly and improving their working conditions.
Protesters also pointed out that the municipality workers did not find their rights in the Social Security Fund because the municipality did not pay its contribution to the fund, and that workers' salaries are not being paid regularly.
