Jordan: Foreign Workers Given Additional Time to Fix their Status

On Monday February 24, the Jordanian Cabinet approved the recommendation of the Minister of Labor to grant foreign workers (of restricted nationalities) an additional deadline for those who applied to fix their status during the legalization period and reconciled the conditions of expatriate workers that ended on January 31, and did not complete their procedures during that period because they were unable to obtain approvals from respective authorities.

The Minister of Labor said in a statement yesterday, Monday, that non-Jordanian workers of restricted nationalities should present their relevant paperwork to the relevant labor directorates who in turn would transfer them to a number of relevant authorities to obtain the approvals related to the issuance of work permits.

The minister also pointed out that they have received many notes from employers stating that some workers were unable to benefit from the decision to fix their working status due to the late notice of approvals regarding their relevant procedures from other parties.

The minister also added that after examining and verifying a number of paperwork applications, a plea was made for the Council of Ministers, which on its turn decided to give them extra deadline to complete the necessary procedures, provided that they had already started them during the previously-announced period of status correction.

There by, whoever is encompassed by the decision made by the cabinet will benefit from all the exemptions mentioned in it regarding legalization and correction of conditions and status.
