Workers of Al-Abyad Cement and Chemicals Factory in South Karak have complained that they have not received their salaries for about six months in violation of the company's management agreement with the Minister of Labor, Nidal Al-Batayneh, which determined the delivering of employees’ salaries starting this month.
The Jordanian Labor Observatory website stated that on Wednesday workers of the factory carried out an open sit-in on the fourth circle in front of the Prime Minister to demand the payment of their salaries.
This sit-in was the result of the company’s violation of its prior agreement with the Minister of Labor, Nidal Al-Batayneh, who agreed with them to pay the salaries of employees at the beginning of March and keep them in their job position, but “the shocking thing was when they received their dismissal decision through a text message during the sit-in, stressing that there is no convincing reason for decision to be made”.
Protesters emphasized that the company had asked its 72 tenured permanent service employees to remain at their homes until a dispute is resolved between the partners representing multiple parties.
Protesters also pointed out that the workers became victims of disputes between the partners without having neither work nor a defender. They noted that the company’s management dismissed 45 workers on December 30, 2019, and now it terminated the services of 74 more workers.
