Palestinian Ahmed Abu Atta has been on hunger strike in front of the Swedish Migration Service in “Vänersborg” for about a month now, in protest of the Swedish authorities’ rejection to grant him permanent residence together with hundreds of Palestinian families’ asylum applications that were rejected.
Abu Atta’s health condition is aggravating which is threatening his life.
The Swedish police threw out Ahmed Abu Atta from his home, originally from Gaza strip who had gone to Sweden to seek asylum, after the authorities refused to grant him residency, thus denying him the right to housing, health care and social welfare.
Palestinian activist in Sweden, Farida Badran, told the “Palestinian Refugee Gate” that the refugee Abu Al-Atta decided to have a sit in front of the migration agency office in “Vänersborg” despite the rain and the cold weather.
After getting kicked out of his home by the police, Abu Atta decided to go on a hunger strike leading to his blood sugar level currently dropping to 2.1, which has become a real threat to his life.
Abu Al-Atta had sent a message to the Palestinian Refugee Gate, a copy of which reads as follow: “I will not be defeated by their injustice, I will continue and die with honor, or have a decent life, I will expose their false humanity. I hope this opens the door of hell not only on Sweden, but also on Europe with its false humanity”.
He also called on all Palestinian refugees, whose applications for asylum in Sweden got rejected, to rally and participate in the protests organized by those who have been rejected for more than 40 days, as the only instrument for communication and obtaining rights.
About 3.700 Palestinians live in Sweden, without any housing, health care or social welfare, due to the migration agency’s rejection to grant them the right to asylum.
Some of them have exceeded 12 years of residence in Sweden, and some are newcomers.
While activists warn of the consequences of rejection of sick people and those with special needs, elderly and children, who are living without any health or educational coverage.
