On March 4, the International Fact-Finding Mission of the International Labor Organization (ILO) concerned with examining and documenting the situation of workers in the occupied Arab territories of 1967 met with Shaher Saad, Secretary-General of the Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions, his deputy Rasim al-Bayyari and the General Federation of Trade Unions of Palestinian workers, for the purpose of hearing from them, a summary of the state of work and Palestinian workers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The current mission was headed for the third year in a row by “Frank Hagemann”, Deputy Regional Director, and Director of the Decent Work Team for Technical Support to the Arab Countries of the Organization in Beirut, while the mission team included both Stephen Cappus, Head of the Statistical Analysis Unit, Catherine Landot, Legal Standards and Constantinus Papadax, Social Dialogue expert, Lisa Turtel, Legal Expert from the International Labor Standards Department, Munir Qalibu, Director of the ILO Office in Palestine, Rasha Al-Shorafa, Program Officer at the Jerusalem Office .
It should be noted that this mission visits the occupied Arab territories of 1967 (the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan) to document Zionist violations against workers on the ground, and it is charged with preparing a neutral report on the violations suffered by workers in the occupied territories.
The report is later submitted to the Director General of the International Labor Organization. The visits of this mission have been ongoing for the occupied Arab territories since 1978.
Shaher Saad commended the important role that the ILO must play in documenting and exposing “Israeli” violations, and its commitment to advocate for Palestinian workers. He also presented the mission with an overview of the situation of Palestinian workers in the occupied Palestinian Arab territories.
