Due to the Corona virus: Emirates Airlines Requests its Employees to Take Unpaid Voluntary Leave

On Tuesday, Emirates Airlines (governmental) company asked its employees to obtain voluntary unpaid leave for up to one month, and take advantage of their vacation balance, after the spread of the Corona virus and the existent 21 cases in the country.

According to Adel Al-Reda, Chief Operating Officer of the company, some countries imposed restrictions on travel and entry of flight and passenger crews, which made Emirates Airlines adjust its schedule of operations, either by reducing the number of flights or cancelling them to certain destinations.

“Our flight schedule has been adjusted and seat capacity has been adjusted to meet the demand for travel across different regions … There is some slowdown in certain markets, while other regions have registered high demand,” Al-Reda said.

The company, which is wholly owned by the Dubai government, has more than 100,000 employees, including more than 21,000 aircraft crews, and 4,000 pilots by the end of March 2019.

The rapid spread of the virus increased fears of a pandemic, after several countries reported their first cases, while the WHO raised the global alert status to “very high”, to improve response to the disease.

The number of deaths caused by the deadly virus exceeded the barrier of 3130, most of them in China, the epicenter of the outbreak, while the number of infected people reached more than 92,000 in 70 countries.
