Sudanese Teachers Committee Demands 8.000 Pounds as Minimum Wage

The Teachers’Committee in Sudan have demanded 8.000 (150 dollars) as a minimum for teachers’ wages.

The Ministry of Finance had asked, in response, to postpone the validation of a 2020 budget that does not include wages increases and asked for a collective discussion of the teachers’ situation in order to come up with a clear vision in this regard.

The committee issued a statement saying that its claim of 8.000 pounds as a minimum wage is a right that they will not be deviated from.

The committee also indicated that it has set out to demand the teachers’ diligent rights, the first of which is to remove structural distortions in wages and allowances dues similar to their counterparts in other occupations.

It also stressed that as Sudan faces great challenges, as a result of the failure to complete the transitional authority structures represented in appointing civilian governors and the Legislative Council, this delay “left the most important structures of state in the hands of the remnants of the defunct regime and its expansion within institutions to this date.”

The committee also renewed its support of the gathering of professionals and its supportive programs to complete the structures of the civil authority.

It also stressed the need to expedite the approval and formation of the new union law quickly.

According to the same statement, the committee affirmed the sovereign council’s commitment to the constitutional document to ensure the stability of the transitional period of divisions, as the country is going through a difficult democratic transition, and that this requires everyone to join efforts to take Sudan to safety.”
