Morocco: Massive Demonstration in Casablanca Protesting Social Disparities and Calling for Real Democracy

On Sunday, February 23, a national protest march was organized in Ennasr Square in Casablanca, with the participation of the Democratic Confederation of Labor and a number of political parties, human rights, women's, student and youth organizations, on behalf of the Moroccan Social Front.

Media’s general coordinator, Younis Frachen, estimated the number of participants at more than 10.000 people.

Participants of the march raised strong slogans condemning social policies that are deepening social disparitie as well as the flagrant violations of social rights and freedoms.

Protesters in the march that had a great security presence, called for democracy and justice, freedom and the release of detainees, the fair distribution of wealth, the improvement of public services, the fight against tyranny, corruption and monopoly.

They also stressed their anti-imperialism and brutal capitalism stances, the need to maintain the purchasing power of citizens, employing youth, and opposing retrogressive laws precisely in the social area as well as all forms of fraud surrounding the will of citizens.
