Morocco: A strike on March 5th by Workers of Water and Electricity Distribution Agencies

The National Syndicate of Workers of the Water and Electricity Agencies, affiliated to the Moroccan Labor Union, revealed the planning of a nationwide protest on March 5 from 10:00 am till 12:00 pm, in all water and electricity distribution agencies and companies in Morocco.

The syndicate said in a press release, that the decision of the demonstration came after a meeting of the general secretaries of the trade union offices with water and electricity distribution companies and agencies in Morocco, in Casablanca, with the aim of “achieving their legitimate demands and preserving their gains”.

Employees of the water and electricity distribution agencies in Morocco considered that this demonstration comes “in protest against the procrastination on the implementation of the provisions of the Marrakesh Agreement that was concluded on June 15, 2019 by the concerned authorities”.

The union denounced “the process of procrastination and obstruction by the representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance”, pointing to “the exclusion of the sector from the recent increase in wages that included other sectors, despite the important and vital role played by workers of their agencies from providing citizens with vital services.
