Shaher Saad, Secretary General of the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions, praised the Arab foreign ministers’ rejection of the “Deal of the Century” reached at the conclusion of an emergency meeting called by the Arab League in Cairo, with Palestinian president Abu Mazen in presence.
Saad stressed in press statements that this deal represents a challenge to international law and to international legitimacy decisions as well as reflects the control of the logic of power and stubbornness over the logic of justice and legitimacy, therefore it must be resisted and addressed in every way.
He also asked the international community to act united to prevent Trump from destroying international references and replace them with his blatant racist stances, recalling the importance of building on Security Council Resolution No. 2334, which was adopted by the Council by an overwhelming majority, on December 23, 2016, and was not opposed by the United States, and called to stop settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Saad concluded his comment by saying: “I am sure that our people and the freedom of our Arab and Islamic nations, especially the masses of workers, will be able to topple down the deal and defeat the occupation to establish an independent Palestinian national state with Jerusalem as its capital”.
