74 Thousand Irregular Migration Attempts in Morocco in 2019

According to Khaled Zerouali, director of Migration and Border Control at the Ministry of Interior, Moroccan authorities prevented 74,000 illegal migration attempts to Europe in 2019, compared to 89,000 in 2018 as well as 208 human trafficking networks were dismantled compared to 229 in 2018.

These results come after Morocco was able to strengthen its measures to combat human trafficking networks, taking into consideration that the pressure that was recorded in 2017 and 2018 remains viable.

The European Union's financial support, which amounted to 140 million Euros in 2019, also contributed to tackling irregular migration. Bearing in mind that Morocco has recently signed another agreement worth 100 million Euros as reported by AFP.
