Morocco: Fears of Overdue Wages for Contracted Teachers in Fes and Meknes

The teachers of the regional academy of education and training in the Fes-Meknes region still did not receive their wages for the month of January, without the academy providing them with a clear justification about the reason for this delay.

The regional academy of education and training in the region of Fes-Meknes published a statement on its Facebook page, as anger amongst teachers increased, stating that the reason for the delay in wages is due to an “intruder to the academy”, without providing explanations about the identity of this “intruder”.

The website "Hespress" reported, quoting a number of contracted teachers, that teachers do not know the reason for the delay in the payment of their wages, which they are supposed to receive on January 31 or February 1.

The teachers’ testimonies confirmed to the "Hespress" news site that they do not know who this external party that the Academy is talking about.

On the other hand, the regional academy of education and training for the Fes-Meknes region said that it had completed all procedures for the payment of teachers’ wages a week before the due date for their payment, but there was a delay from a certain party, due to a simple administrative procedure, according to Mohsen El-Zawak, the director of the academy.

The delay in the payment of teachers' wages has revived the Fes-Meknes regional academy’s fears of social instability. It is one of the main reasons that led them to participate in protest forms that are continuing to this day, demanding their inclusion in the public service, smilar to their teachers’ counterparts.
