Egypt: Workers of Kafr El Dawar’s Spinning Company on Strike Because of January Salaries Overdue

Since February 4, Workers of the subsidiaries of Kafr El Dawwar’s Spinning Company and Sabbagh Al Bayda launched a strike to protest the delay in the payment of the January salaries.

The strike included the maintenance and management department, Kafr El-Dawwar’s spinning workshops and 600 dyers, bringing the total number of strikers to about 2350 workers, administrators and technicians out of a total of 7,047 workers.

It is important to note that the company had paid the salaries of two-thirds of the workers after the reception of a check of 15 million pounds from the Holding Company for Spinning and Weaving and the Ministry of Finance, in addition to a check sent by the President of the General Union for Spinning and Weaving Workers with a value of 2 million pounds, which contributed to completing wages with a million pounds and paying the bank dues to workers’ loans, as reported by press outlets.

A third of the workers striked in the two branches of the company in Kafr El-Dawwar due to the late reception of a check of 5 million pounds, the value of the remaining workers’ wages.

However, the administration has not yet determined when it will complete the payment of the workers’ dues, leading them to strike as a result of the social and economic obligations awaiting them at the end of each month with their families and children.
