A report issued by the Ministry of Labor recorded a slight decline in the unemployment rate in the Kingdom, as it decreased by one moving percentage point from 10.2% in 2017 to 9.2% in 2019, among young people between 15 and 24 years old and among women, as well as holders of degrees.
The Minister of Labor explained that the size of the unemployed population decreased between 2017 and 2019, moving from 1.216.000 to 1.107.000 unemployed, noting that this period was marked by an increase in the pace of creating net jobs, as it amounted to 362,000 jobs, or about 120.600 jobs of the annual average.
According to official data, the services sector remains the main sector in terms of contributing to creating job opportunities by creating 435.000 jobs during the past three years.
The report added that “the rate of underemployment among active individuals aged 15 and above has experienced a decline in recent years, registering 9.2% in 2019 compared to 9.8% in 2017”.
The same report also mentioned that “In recent years, the unpaid job rate for (mainly consisting of domestic assistants) decreased from 16.6% in 2016 to 15.3% in 2019.”
In addition to that, the increase in the percentage of paid work within the job performed on the national level by 0.3 percentage points during the period 2016-2019.
According to data issued by the National Social Security Fund about the number of newly authorized employees, in 2018 there was a net increase of 173.700 salaries, and in 2017 a net increase of 167.900 salaries was registered.
There by, the years 2017 and 2018 registered a total of 341.600 salaries.
At the level of voluntary programs for employment, the period between 2017 and 2019 exceeded the level 100,000 annual integration, as the number of beneficiaries of incentive programs on employment moved from 92,288 in 2017 to 118,308 in 2019, according to the same report.
