On Thursday, February 20, basic education teachers in Tunis launched a strike in all schools, in response to the call of the General Syndicate of Basic Education of the Tunisian General Labor Union.
The strike comes as a result of attacks on educational staff and schools, where the number of attacks exceeded 100 attacks per week.
Educators are demanding protection and the need to enact a law criminalizing attacks on schools.
It is also important to note that representatives of the Ministry of Education were absent from a conciliation session held in Tunis Governorate headquarters which was planned to discuss the solutions needed to address violence in the educational sector.
