Tunisia: El Sagodoud Area of Redeyef Suffering from Water Shortage

According to the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES for its French acronym), El Sagodoud area of the city of Rediff, from the governorate of Gafsa, has been suffering from frequent ruptures of drinking water for 3 years despite the repetitive demands.

The forum said in a statement that its branch in the mining region had filed a lawsuit against the Tunisian Company for the Exploitation and Distribution of Water (SONEDE for its French acronym), noting that its first court session had already taken place on January 16.

The statement also highlighted that the “El Sagodoud” area is still suffering up until today from the continuous ruptures in drinking water supply, noting that the Forum officials have not seen any progress in providing a solution to this dilemma.

Responses have been negative and indicate a complete inability to find radical solutions to preserve the dignity of the people of El Sagodoud.

It also considered the lack of will amongst Authorities and the concerned parties hindering to the possibility of overcoming the obstacles. Especially, as there are some possible solutions and no great potentials are needed.

FTDES finally confirmed its continued adoption of the case of the people of El Sagodoud and will be defending them until this problem is resolved.
