The General Assembly of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT for its French acronym) decided to postpone the strike of solid and liquid waste agents that was scheduled to take place at the headquarters of the National Waste Management Agency and the National Sanitation Authority on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of January, to the 3, 4 and 5 February instead.
Al-Shaab newspaper reported that the trade union party postponed the strike at the request of the Ministry of Local Affairs and Environment and the National Agency for Waste Disposal and the National Sanitation Authority.
The delegation of the ministry suggested postponing the strike to enable it to provide evidence of progress in the project to create regional agencies for urban and environmental services, as agreed upon on July 12, 2019.
It was also agreed upon that the union side will provide the head of the supervision and escorting committee for decentralization in the Ministry of Local Affairs and Environment with the respective documents concerning the issues related to liquid waste workers.
Al-Shaab newspaper also reported that the strike is scheduled to be carried out at the headquarters of the National Sanitation Authority and the National Agency for Waste Disposal in the governorates of Tunis, Ariana, Manouba, Bizerte, Ben Arous, Sfax, Sousse, Gabes, Nabeul, Medenine, Tataouine and Tozeur.
The syndicate’s party is also demanding the implementation of a previous agreement dating back to April 21, 2011, which concerns handling and committing to establishing environmental municipal agencies and integrate agents into them as agreed upon in a session on July 12, 2019.
UGTT also indicated that some public deals have been issued in contradiction with this agreement.
