The online newspaper ‘Mouhajer News’ reported on the living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon who suffer from policies and procedures that make life difficult for young people who represent 50% of all refugees. In an investigation, the newspaper reported eyewitness accounts of young Palestinians living in the Chatila camp who tried to leave Lebanon for Europe to flee poverty and unemployment.
Indeed, young refugees live in a deplorable infrastructure with inadequate buildings, especially for children. In addition to this, the Lebanese authorities have put in place procedures and laws that make life difficult for the Palestinians. Among these procedures is the amendment to the Labor Code which imposes unfeasible criteria for any employer wishing to hire a Palestinian.
In addition, the war in Syria has worsened the situation in the region, which has welcomed even more Palestinians and Syrians for a total of refugees ranging from 22 to 25,000 people, including only 8,000 Palestinians registered with UNRWA.
Ou Mouhajer News ’said, according to the testimonies of the young Palestinians, that the interested parties are also victims of mafias of trafficking in human beings who scam them by promising to bring them to Europe.
