Experts have said that work in the informal sector is usually done without a contract since it is seasonal work. Experts added that women are the most deprived of contracts and are victims of wage discrimination.
A report published by the High Commission for Planning has deduced that more than 59% of workers in this sector do not have a contract while 79.7% of workers in rural areas do not have a contract against 52.1% of workers in cities. Young people under 25 are the most deprived of a work contract (only 21.2% of these young people have a contract compared to 45.7% for adults 45 and over).
For their part, the employers estimated that the flexibility of the employment legislation will create more jobs in a national economy which allows only 40,000 new jobs per year while the labor market has more than 400,000 job seekers per year.
In addition, the experts indicated that the agricultural sector is one of the sectors that least respects the employment contract since it remains an essentially seasonal sector of activity. He added that the construction and public works sector has become almost an informal sector because of the absence of employment contracts.
The absence of an employment contract prevails in light of the recovery of the informal sector in the economy, which represents around 20% of non-agricultural GDP, according to a study by the General Union of Moroccan Markets, which reports that the size of the informal sector in Morocco represents around 17 billion dollars.
