Sudanese media have reported that the Transitional Authority announced on Saturday morning the dissolution of union councils and professional unions created during the era of ousted President al-Bashir, ousted by the people last April. In this context, the president of the Committee to fight against corruption and the restoration of the goods of Sudan, lieutenant-general Yasser Abdul Rahman Al-Atta, issued a decision relating to this dissolution and this in accordance with the law on trade unions of the year 2010.
The decision also includes the dissolution of the executive offices and councils of professional unions created in accordance with the law on professional unions of the year 2004. The executive offices and councils of professional unions created on the basis of the law on the employers of the year 1992 will also be dissolved.
In addition, the decision authorizes the confiscation of goods and cars and other equipment registered in the names of trade unions and professional and employers' unions. Management committees will be created and charged with managing the affairs of unions and professional and employers' unions and will be fairly represented in order to safeguard the interests of all stakeholders. These committees will also be responsible for preparing the general meetings of the organizations interested in the dissolution.
The new decision also returned to the issue of revising basic statutes, motions and laws so that the texts are harmonized with the principles of democracy and the independence of union work.
