The Coordination of Basic Education in Mauritania has threatened to start a series of protests and strikes to induce the line ministry to initiate a dialogue around requests from professionals in the sector.
In a statement, the Coordination, which brings together several unions, explained that protest rallies will be organized with partial suspensions of education and strikes throughout Mauritanian territory.
The statement said that these protest movements will start from this month until March 2020 and will be held monthly with the organization of a day of consultation on the teacher's reality.
The Coordination of Basic Education in Mauritania explained that it had received no positive response from the Ministry of Basic Education and the reform of the national education sector concerning the requests presented last October. Let’s remember that the union side is calling for the improvement of teachers' working conditions and salary levels.
