In a government report: What is the story of "women merchants" selling foreign workers in Kuwait?

A government report in Kuwait disclosed shocking information about what are known as "women merchants," who have resorted to using a new demonic style with foreign workers to blackmail Kuwaitis.

The report issued by the Committee to monitor and follow up the markets in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Commerce that the recruitment agencies for domestic workers, known in the media as "women merchants", raised the prices of foreign workers.

The "prices" of foreign domestic workers in Kuwait amounted to about 5 thousand dollars per person, while the Ministry of Trade set 3300 dollars to bring in one person, according to the newspaper, "The New Arab."

The newspaper quoted sources in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Trade as confirming that "there is a decision expected by the Minister of Trade to compel recruitment agencies to work according to the prices that were set by the ministry in the past."

The sources added that in the event of non-commitment, "there will be heavy penalties that will lead to the closure of the office, and the withdrawal of its license for violating the decision under which it was established, in addition to a huge financial fine of about 25 thousand dollars for violators."

It is noteworthy that domestic workers account for the lion's share of expatriate workers in Kuwait, and at the end of the first half of 2019, they amounted to about 750 thousand workers, thus accounting for about 37.5% of the total expatriate labor in Kuwait.
