The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees denounced the congestion in the deportation center of Tripoli and explained that this congestion has caused the center to change the crossing point of migrants which has impacted the services offered to the interested parties. OHCHR explained that the center has a capacity of 600 people and wished it to resume its former functions.
The spokesperson for the organization, Caroline Glock, explained in a statement to the Italian news agency 'Ansa' that Libya's deportation centers all suffer from congestion. She added that this situation has greatly impacted the services offered by the centers.
Thousands of illegal immigrants, mostly Africans, choose to cross the Mediterranean Sea toward Europe from Libya, which has been suffering insecurity and chaos since the fall of its former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
