The basic education sector in Morocco continues to live under the rhythm of protests from teachers demanding permanent employment contracts.
The teachers, who have already organized a protest rally outside the headquarters of the Ministry of National Education in Rabat, are claiming benefits similar to those granted to ministry officials (incumbents in the government); benefits like pensions and the right to transfer.
In this context, union sources have assured that of a total of 240,000 teachers, the regional education and training academies have recruited only 55,000 people on fixed-term renewable contracts.
For its part, the government continues to claim that contract teachers benefit from a monthly salary of 5,000 dirhams ($ 520) like regular teachers.
