Mauritania: Threats to strike in the health sector

Four health unions in Mauritania have threatened to take intensive action if the government does not take concrete action in favor of a wage increase in the sector under the 2020 budget.

In this context, the Union of Mauritanian Specialist Doctors, the National Union of Public Health, the Mauritanian Union of Midwives and the National Health Union have assured, in a joint statement, that the government has not yet issued any official decision concerning the protocol signed between the parties concerned and has taken no concrete measures allowing a salary increase for professionals in the sector.

The four unions said they were planning to enforce the March 13, 2019 protocol and called for a settlement on the issue of premiums.
