Jordan: The Ministry of Labor discusses less important issues than expected

Civil society organizations criticized the ministry's lack of attention to its demands for amending some articles related to trade union organization in the labor law, giving workers the right to represent themselves in cases of labor conflict, and called for the definition of harassment in this law, equal maternity leave in the public and private sectors, and others related to eliminating any discrimination Towards migrant workers.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Labor decided to open the law again, specifically ten articles of it only, for discussion, related to organizing the labor market and giving more powers to the Minister of Labor, although it was not until six months after the publication of that law, in its new form, that it was published in the official gazette. Civil society organizations were frustrated that even before the last version of the law was passed, they were reluctant to open all of its articles for discussion, whereby some expressed their surprise that it was only reopened to discuss these articles, and left the most important articles such as those related to labor conflict, trade union organization and collective bargaining.

"Al-Ghad" website mentioned the director of Tamkeen Center for Support and Support, Linda Kalash, who said, "We still live in a legislative and mood chaos in amending legislation, although the labor law has been modified this year, it opens again to amendment without taking into account what is required Its amendment and the demands of civil society institutions.
