Egypt: 2,000 workers of 'Watania Sleeping Trains' threatened with dismissal

The workers of the Watania Sleeping Trains announced the suspension of their sit-in organized on platform number 1 at the station of Egypt against the decision of the Minister of Transport and Communications concerning the sale of the station to an investor foreign. In this context, union sources reported that the sit-in of workers was surrounded by police.

The Workers' Trade Union Committee, for its part, addressed several official parties, including the Parliament, the Government Presidency and the Egyptian Workers' Union, to intervene and save the workers' decision minister who jeopardizes their professional future.

The workers estimated that the minister's decision could jeopardize the position of more than 2,000 workers, which will affect the future of more than 1,700 families.

The Minister has decided to terminate the contract of the National Company for the Management of Transport Services, Hotel and Tourism Services belonging to the Authority of Railways concerning the investment of the station of Egypt in Cairo. The Minister also terminated the contract with the Railway Company for Integrated Services and Insurance and Cleaning the Railway Authority to hand over all contracts signed between the two companies to the third party.

For his part, the President of the Board of Directors and elected member of the company 'MOT' sent a letter, following the instructions of the Minister and his team, to the President of the National Company for the Management of Transport Services, hotel and tourism services and the president of the Railway Company for integrated services and insurance and cleaning to call them to hand over all Cairo station sites and original copies of investment contracts.

The sum of the contract between the parties concerned is 1.1 billion pounds.
