Egypt: Security forces encircle sit-in of 'Eipico1' and 'Eipico2' workers

Thousands of workers in the pharmaceutical factories 'Eipico1' and 'Eipico2' began Wednesday, November 14, 2019, a labor strike to call for the improvement of working conditions and set the daily working hours at 8H.

The protesters also claim their right to annual leave, salary increase, tenure of contract workers, medical coverage for those suffering from chronic diseases and means of transport for those living in remote villages.

For their part, the police surrounded the workers' sit-in and tried to disperse them. The administration, for its part, issued a press release of more than five pages in which it claimed to have lost more than 30 million pounds because of the strike and called on the police to intervene to end the sit-in.
