Algeria: A three-day general strike to support the popular movement

Yesterday, Algerian unions have begun a three-day general strike in parallel with the strike of judges to support the popular movement. From Tuesday until Thursday, several sectors (energy, industry, education and transport) will be on strike with the judges who begin their second week of strike.

In a statement, the Trade Union Confederation of the Productive Forces explained that the three-day strike was decided after the authorities did not react to the demands of the popular movement.

For its part, the Algerian Union of Energy Workers called on all the branches of the sector to observe the three-day strike and explained that the voice of the people must be heard and their protests supported. The union has also indicated that the situation of the oil company 'Sonatrach' is alarming and that the administration continues to repress the workers.

Meanwhile, health and education unions and the Independent Trade Union of Electricity and Gas Workers announced Sunday their participation in the general strike to support the peaceful people's movement.

The Trade Union Confederation of the Productive Forces has presented a summary of the demands of the people's movement which translate into the right to free circulation, freedom of expression and peaceful protest, the right to organize, the rights of workers, the liberation of all activists of the movement, restore the dignity of the judges and investigate all the abuses of power in the cases of arrests of the demonstrators.

The Confederation also called for the dissolution of the Elections Authority, explaining that it is unconstitutional and illegitimate, the cancellation of the 12/12/2019 elections, the ousting of Ben Salah and Bedoui and the cancellation of all the laws that the current affairs government tries to pass.
