Saudi Arabia: New legislation for domestic workers

Local Saudi media reported that the Human Rights Authority has introduced new legislation on domestic workers in the kingdom.

The new legislation concerns rules on the economic and medical situation of workers. In this context, the Mechanism explained that it is not forbidden to hire workers whose situation threatens their health, safety or dignity. Domestic workers are entitled to end-of-service bonuses, annual leave and sick leave (paid and capped at one month per year).

It is worth noting that 2.5 million domestic workers work in Saudi Arabia according to the statistics of the second half of 2018.
