Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe publish Global Hunger Index

Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe international foundations have recently published the Global Hunger Index, which has been compiled from 117 countries. In this context, the online newspaper 'Maghreb voices' indicated that Mauritania was first in the Maghreb countries with 26 points followed by Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia while Libya was not included by the index because of the lack of data.

Worldwide, Mauritania was ranked 90th with 26.7 which places it among the countries suffering from a serious rate of famine. For Algeria, with 10.3 points and 47th world, the level of famine is average.

Out of 117 countries in the study, Morocco ranked 42nd in the world, with an average of 9.4 so that it was ranked by countries with low starvation rates. Tunisia is the Maghreb country with the lowest rate of famine in the Maghreb. Tunisia ranks 23rd globally with an average of 6.2.

Although Libya was not affected by this study because of the lack of data, the Index has nevertheless alerted to the state of the art in this country where sources say that because of the conflicts and disturbances that lasted since 2011, people have struggled to access food, which remains available.

This year's report focuses on the consequences of climate change – a steadily rising threat to people suffering from hunger that demands immediate policy action.
