Oman: A new application for combating violations against domestic workers

Trafficking in human beings researcher Mayssa Bent Khemis Chalbia said it has become vital to implement a Smartphone app to combat violations of domestic workers in Oman. The researcher explained that there is a need to coordinate with the relevant authorities and security parties to put in place an effective plan to fight crimes of human trafficking. Mayssa Bent Khemis Chalbia has assured that such an application will avoid Oman criticism of international organizations.

On the sidelines of her participation in the National Conference on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, Mayssa Bent Khemis Chalbia explained, in media statements, that the idea is to allow every domestic worker to benefit from an application on her Smartphone that contains personal data and allows the worker to alert the authorities about any violation. For the researcher, such an application can facilitate the handling of cases of violations against domestic workers.

Mayssa Bent Khemis Chalbia said that the current motion regulating the domestic workers sector is no longer sufficient and recalled that the Labor Code does not address these workers.
