Last Sunday, drivers of 'smart applications' organized a protest rally to the Transport Sector Regulatory Authority. The online newspaper 'The Jordanian Labor Union Observatory' reported that the occupational safety of these drivers has become seriously under threat as some of the customers have fabricated complaints against them. Although these complaints are well founded, all companies take them into consideration and suspend the driver from his work without taking the trouble to verify the facts.
As a result, the driver has become a victim of the changing mood of these companies, which jeopardizes his work constantly. In this context, the protesters have called for the company share, currently 25%, to be revised downward so that they can cover the costs of vehicle maintenance and fuel charges that have recently increased.
In addition, drivers of smart applications have called for the release of work permits, since they have neither social security nor retirement, so they can sell the license at the end of their service. The protestors also demanded a customs exemption for their cars as is the case for the yellow taxi. The drivers have also alerted the practices of companies that do not comply with the decrees published in the Official Journal, like the decree concerning the extension of 7 years of working age.
