Morocco / Nador: Transport companies treat migrants with racism and discrimination

The Moroccan branch of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights in Nador confirmed that local authorities imposed on transport companies to adopt a compulsory residence permit on African immigrants to buy a bus ticket to travel to northern or southern Moroccan cities.

In a tweet, th office of the Human Rights association described the behavior of the Moroccan authorities as racist, stressing that human color has become a measure to obtain a ticket in a travel.

Some transport agencies, through written notes, acknowledge that any sub-Saharan citizen wishing to buy a ticket must prove that he is legally resident in Morocco, especially if he intends to travel to the northern cities.

In his turn, Omar Naji, president of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) in Nador, denounced the forcing of African immigrants to submit their residency documents.

Several sub-Saharan migrants have complained to local media of the discrimination they face in northern Morocco, especially in the city of Tangier, when they want to travel using taxis.
