Last Wednesday, mayors from all regions of Jordan gathered at the headquarters of the Madaba Municipality to study the issue of the municipal labor bonus which was recently decided by the Ministry of Local Government and the union of municipal agents from the south and the center.
According to the newspaper 'Labor Observer of Jordan', the mayors agreed to validate the new bonus by increasing, in return, the number of working hours for civil servants by one hour more per day, with the exception of Thursday, as of January 1, 2020. In sum, mayors have decided to give municipal officials a bonus of 25% against an hour more work per day.
In response to this decision, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Jordan Municipal Agents rejected the agreement stating that the agents are demanding a 25% increase in basic salary without any revision of working hours as agreed in the first Mafraq agreement. The Federation opposed this bonus in its current version and announced the holding of a sit-in Wednesday, October 30, 2019 before the parent ministry.
