The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Jordanian Municipalities decided to observe a general strike for 30 October 2019 in front of the Ministry's headquarters to protest against the non-implementation of the Ministerial Decree concerning municipal officials; a decree that was not cited in the budget for municipalities and common service boards.
The Jordan Labor Watch reported on its official website that the Federation has demanded a 25% increase in base salary for civil servants and common service councils as of January 1, 2020, provided that the increase is cited in the budgets of municipalities and common service boards.
The Federation also called for a bonus of 25 dinars for civil servants and common service councils and for a participation of municipalities and councils in the savings bank according to what will be decided by the system after the legislative validation. In addition, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Jordanian Municipalities also called for a bonus for drivers, to establish tenured civil servants recruited for municipalities and councils (according to the conditions mentioned by the ministerial decree published for this purpose), to a remuneration daily minimum of 9 dinars for those who have more than one year of service and to no longer change the professional qualifications in the municipalities and councils only after the issuance of the necessary professional cards and the publication of the new structural structures.
