The National Council of the National Union of Algerian Psychologists announced that a national strike will be organized on October 22, 2019. A strike that arose following a truce of seven years. Psychologists demand the tenure of all contract workers in public health.
In a statement, the union said that its requests, submitted to the Ministry of Health since 2012, have still not been answered while the union has already filed a petition of eighteen applications including, the establishment of all psychologists, the promotion of those who meet the necessary criteria and the revision of the basic status of public health psychologists.
The doctors also asked for the revision of the compensatory system which concerns them, the issuance of a ministerial decree which fixes the diplomas necessary for the equivalence in order to apply for the post of psychologist in the public health and the elaboration of an executive decree concerning the ethics of psychologists. They also called for the revision of the joint ministerial decree dated 12/05/2013 concerning the number of senior positions for public health psychologists and the revision of the ministerial decree of 16/11/2015 concerning the conditions and criteria of the organization of competitions and professional examinations to integrate the body of public psychologists.
