Since October 8, workers at the 'Universal' mechanical engineering company have been on open strikes at the company's head office to claim their delayed wages for three months and the payment of bonuses and production gains.
Local media reported testimony from protesters who explained that their strike was decided after the company took the habit of blocking wages, delaying them and paying them in installments. The workers claimed to live in difficult social conditions, especially with the rising prices in the country.
The workers have lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Labor, which has launched an investigation into the matter to find that workers have the right to three months' paid leave, which was not respected because the company's buses refused to drop employees at the workplace.
Recall that the protesters pledged not to resort to violence while expressing their concern to see the police intervene to dismantle their sit-in. The other workers in the factories of the complex (which includes the mechanical factory, a factory of 10,000 workers, another of 5,000 and a metal factory) participate in the sit-in at headquarters.
