Palestine: More than 43,000 women workers whose salary does not exceed 500 shekels

Following an appeal by the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU), dozens of workers organized a protest rally, last Thursday, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labor in Ramallah to demand the application of the minimum wage which is 1450 shekels ($ 411).

During the rally, Shaher Saad, the secretary-general of the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions, called for employers who do not respect the minimum wage to be punished, noting that more than 43,000 workers are paid less than 500 shekels ($ 141).

Chahar Saad explained that the union has sent a letter to the Minister of Labor containing all the requests that revolve around, essentially, the implementation of the sanctions raised and the increase of the minimum wage which must be much higher than the 70 shekels ( $ 19) previously announced by the government.
