The siege of the Gaza Strip by the Zionist occupation continues for the 13th consecutive year, greatly affecting the lives of citizens – economically, socially and culturally. Many in Gaza suffer high rates of unemployment. In this context, dozens of fishermen, workers and political and social groups organized a protest rally last Tuesday at the city port to protest against the armed forces of occupation who targeted fishermen working offshore.
Local media, citing protesters' testimonies, reported that fishermen who are always targeted by the occupation forces have appealed to the United Nations to provide them with the necessary protection to be able to practice their profession without risk. In addition, fishermen called on the Palestinian authorities to put in place a comprehensive national plan to support and strengthen the role of trade unions and civil society groups seeking real and realistic national solutions to help workers combat unemployment and poverty.
