The Jordanian government has started, last Sunday, to regulate the situation of irregular migrant workers after the publication of the system of work permit fees for non-Western workers for 2019 in the Official Journal. In this context, the Minister of Labour explained, in a media statement, that the fees for permits have not changed overall and that the fees for domestic workers have been reduced from 600 to 500 dinars. For agricultural workers, the costs will be 1500d, 2000d annually for loading and unloading workers and 2500d annually for skilled workers.
With regard to economic activities, ‘construction, loading and unloading’, it was decided to interpolate 20% of the fees for each of the previous years with a maximum threshold of 5 years for each new worker or for the worker who changes employer by keeping the same sector or changing sector to the agricultural sector exception provided that fees are paid in full for each new year or part of the year.
For domestic workers, 25% of work permit fees for each of the previous years will be accounted for with a five-year maximum threshold for each new worker or for the worker who changes employer by keeping the same sector or changing sector with the exception of the agricultural sector, provided that the fees are paid in full for each new year or part of the year.
In addition, migrant workers who hold work permits for domestic work will receive 50% of the cost of the work permit with a maximum threshold of five years for each worker who changes employer, hair salons sector, provided that his license is expired before the start of the regulation period of the situation.
