Egypt: Protests in Europe to denounce arrests of protesters

Egyptian activists held a protest rally in front of their embassy headquarters in the German capital to demand the departure of the Sisi regime. The protesters also denounced the repression exerted by the authorities against the Egyptian citizens.

In Paris, several Egyptians went out expressing their support for Sissi's opponents by calling on the latter to resign and dismiss what they called a 'military regime'. They called for a real fight against corruption and arrests against human rights defenders and journalists. They also called for an end to violations of the rights of the Egyptian people and called on the international community and Western countries to stop supporting the current regime.

In Egypt, numerous protests in the southern suburbs of Cairo were held on Friday afternoon (Friday of Salvation) while protests were held in Giza where citizens denounced the living conditions. In Luxor, citizens took to the street to call Abdelfattah Sissi at the same time as a large demonstration organized in Qûs.

For their part, the police closed early in the morning access to Tahrir Square, central Cairo, while restrictive measures ,throughout the country, were taken to prevent the holding of demonstrations.

For its part, the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights said Friday morning that the number of people arrested in the last seven days has reached 2076 people including politicians, lawyers, journalists and academics. In this context, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, called on the Egyptian authorities to make a radical change in their handling of the demonstrations and called for the immediate release of arrested protesters.
