Mauritania: Workers legal rights ignored in the electricity company

Mauritania's journal "Akhbar" reported that a number of workers at the National Electricity Company complained of being ignored and in a subcontracting company called ECTP, demanding that the government intervenes to ensure their full rights and respect of the law.

Workers' spokesman Abdallah Sisi said that he and dozens of workers at ECTP, which operates as a subcontractor, are facing delays in their salaries payment , as the Company should intervene to pay them directly after the company was unable to pay.

Sisi pointed out that they were working without social security, and without the right to the annual vacation. The company was as well firing any worker who gets sick, or exposed to a traffic accident preventing him to continue working.

Sisi asserted that the company had recently sent more than 30 to retirement and were shocked that they have no rights and no guarantees.
