Oman: Justice issues two verdicts against domestic worker recruitment offices

The Court of First Instance of Jalan Bani Bu Ali recently issued two verdicts against a domestic workers' recruitment bureau for violating the law of consumer protection.

These verdicts were issued after the administration of the Southeast Governorate's Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) received complaints from two consumers who indicated that after signing a contract with the owner of the 'a domestic workers' recruitment office, the two workers refused to continue and demanded termination of their contract. Following this, the two consumers agreed with the owner of the office to have the two resigning members replaced, which was not done.

Local media reported that the two complaints were transferred to the Attorney General who initiated the legal proceedings before sending them back to the Court of First Instance, which sentenced the recruiting office to 100 riyals ($ 39) and to reimburse them. Recruitment fees of 1650 Omani riyals ($ 635). The second verdict sentenced the accused to Omani 100 riyals ($ 39) and recruitment expenses reimbursement of 1450 Omani riyals ($ 560).
