Mauritania: Nurses protest in front of presidential palace

Last Monday, dozens of nurses held a protest rally at the presidential palace in Nouakchott to call for official recruitment into state hospitals.

Local media have reported, citing protesters, that the nurses involved have passed the written exam recently organized by the Ministry of Health and have been excluded from the oral examination. The protesters denounced the exclusion and said that the number of nurses retained is not enough for the needs of hospitals and does not meet the figure announced initially by the state.

In recent weeks, the Ministry of Health has organized a competition to recruit medical specialists and nurses in public hospitals. The results of these competitions were announced last Sunday.
