The Minister of Labor and Social Development announced, in its 2018 Annual Report, that 367 accidents occurred in the vocational and labor sector. The Ministry recorded 21 deaths during work, among which 16 cases were in the building and construction sector.
The direct causes of these accidents are falling from above, 95 accidents were recorded last year, falling material or objects (60 accidents), collisions against machines (44 accidents), collisions against fixed or mobile objects (40 accidents), impactions ( 20 accidents), fires (16 accidents), and 14 other types of accidents. In addition to 13 injury for carrying substances, 9 accident of exposure to electricity and 7 cases of overexposure to heat.
The report also highlighted 6 explosions, collision of vehicle and collapses (4) and two cases of drowning with a total of 367 occupational accidents.
The construction sector witnessed the highest death accidents with 16 cases and 67 serious injuries, 67 minor injuries and 38 workers had three days off for sickness. The manufacturing sector recorded 4 fatalities, 37 serious injuries, 30 minor injuries and 14 three-day sick leave. The restaurant, commerce, and hospitality sector recorded at least one death last year, 19 serious injuries, 30 minor injuries and 13 three-day sick leave.
The sectors that did not report any deaths were transportation, storage and communications with, however, one serious and one minor injuries were repoted. The social and personal
services sector recorded 9 serious injuries, 4 minor injuries and one worker with three days of sick leave. The mining sector and Careers suffered a serious injury, three minor injuries and three days of sick leave. Mining and quarrying recorded one serious injury, three minor injuries and one injury which the worker missed from work for 3 days. In addition to other activities, which recorded 10 serious injuries, 13 minor injuries and 5 injuries, where the worker was absent from work for 3 days.
