Egypt: Private sector workers wait for minimum wage and special allowance

Private sector workers in Egypt are still awaiting implementation of the decisions made, three weeks ago, by the Higher Council for Community Dialogue regarding minimum wages and special allowances for employees in the sector.

If the decision in question were not applied, the Egyptian State would be accused of not respecting the international conventions that it has ratified by the International Labor Organization (ILO), the articles of its Constitution and the Labor Code.

The private sector employs some 70 percent of Egypt's labor force.

Previously, it was agreed that, starting from July 2019, the minimum wage in the private sector should be LE 2000, and a special bonus of 10% of basic salary of LE 75 and LE 150 Per month shall be paid to the employees of the State in accordance with the internal and financial rules and regulations governing each company or enterprise and their financial and economic conditions, provided that it is supported by the evidence that the enterprise is unable to pay what has been agreed upon.
