Jordan: Professional and social demands accumulated at Potash Company

The General Trade Union of Workers in Mining and Metal Industries -potash subsidiary, has called on the Potash Corporation's board of directors to put an end to oppression against workers and trade unionists. Last Wednesday, the union issued a statement in which it called on the company's administration to handle the stalled files explaining that the plant is only continuing its failures and disappointments.

The statement cautioned against what it was described as "injustice and discrimination against workers" and recalled that, recently, promotions within the factory have caused great tensions as they have been based on fuzzy and unfounded criteria.

The General Trade Union of Workers in Mining and Metal Industries also warned against the suspension and cancellation of workers' promotions and recalled that the administration continues to extend the work of the directors when they reach the retirement age. In its press release, the union also called for unifying the salary grid, reviewing the annual increase and special instructions, and implementing the vacancy policies to ensure fair competition. In addition, the union called for risk trades to be controlled, to expand and improve the medical network, to implement canceled or suspended promotions, and to upgrade low wages.
