A recent study by the Youth Participation Forum, the Ministry of Labor, the General Employment Administration and the United Nations Population Fund revealed that Palestine had the highest unemployment rate in Asia and in the Arab world with 29%. Palestine is ranked 2nd after war-torn countries like Yemen and 3rd on the list of Arab League member countries.
The study on future indicators and labor market needs, led by researchers Nasser Abdelkarim and Abdallah Marar, found that the number of university students is 220,000 people (61% female and 39% male) enrolled in 50 Palestinian universities and faculties. 40,000 students are graduating annually, of whom only 8,000 are finding work. The unemployment rate among new graduates is 56%, with 41% in the West Bank and 73% in the Gaza Strip, i.e. 20% of new graduates.
In this context, Nasser Abdelkarim asserted that the highest unemployment rate is registered among graduates in education with 70%, 69% for graduates in human sciences and arts and 27% for law students.
The unemployment rate among graduates in social science is 64%, 61% for mathematics, statistics, computer science and technology, 55% for press and media, 52% for commerce and administration sciences 48% for architects, 45% for engineers and 44% for medicine.
