The Jordanian Women Solidarity Institute published in a report that Jordan ranks 45th out of 149 countries in education based on the Gender Gap Index ( 2018).
The population of Jordan according to population estimates at the end of 2018 is 7,287 million, while Jordanians aged under 15 were estimated at 4,789 million, including 2.21 women and 2.57 men according to the figures of the Instance general statistics.
The institute reported that the book 'Jordan in figures for 2018' has revealed that 94.9% of Jordanians aged 15 and over are in school and only 5.1% of them are illiterate with 7.2% of women and 3.1% men.
Although the Global Gender Gap Index Report of 2018, prepared by the World Economic Forum, put Jordan at the bottom of the world rankings with 138th out of 149 countries, knowing that the report covers four sectors of the world: gender gap in economic participation, political participation, education, and health.
The association added that the audit of the educational levels of Jordanians showed that 53.5% of them have not finished high school (48.8% of women and 58% of men), 14.9% of secondary school graduates (15.9 % of women and 14.1% of men), 7.9% of them hold an average degree (9.5% of women and 6.3% of men) and 18.6% hold a bachelor's degree or above (18.6% for both sexes) .
By converting rates into figures, it turns out that illiteracy affects 244,000 Jordanians (179,000 women and 79,000 men) while 2.57 million Jordanians have not reached secondary school (1.08 million women of 362,000 men), 713,000 Jordanians Secondary school graduates (352,000 women and 362,000 men), 375,000 of them hold a medium degree (212,000 women and 163,000 men) while Jordanians with a bachelor's degree and above are 890,000 people (445,000 for both sexes) according to the report of the association.
